 In Interviews

Hello, @beermanphotography here with another interview!

Thank you for participating in this interview, I am very excited to talk with you!  Please introduce yourself to the @toypic_community . How long have you been a toy photographer?

Q: How long have you been a toy photographer?

A: I started taking pictures of my toys as a hobby roughly since last year, using either my phone or my camera. I occasionally posted some of them on my personal social media accounts, until I finally opened an Instagram account last March 2020, dedicated for my toy photography.

Q: What got you started in toy photography?

A: As a kid I’ve always loved playing with toys and collecting action figures, and since then I guess toys will always have a special place in my heart. Growing up and being an adult can be exhausting sometimes, but taking photos of my toys is my way of escaping my reality; with toy photography, I don’t have to be an adult. I get back at being a kid at heart, bringing out my creativity, imagination, and wonder. I learn new stuff everyday and bring out more of creative side everyday through practice and through the people I talk to from the community.

Q: What is your favorite figure to shoot and why?

A: I definitely love taking photos of my Funko Pop! collection. They don’t have points of articulation unlike most action figures, but that makes them much more challenging and engaging to shoot! Funko pops is pretty much “what you see is what you get,” so then I always have to think of creative ways on how I will setup a proper scene appropriate for the figure.

Q: What is your favorite place to take photos?

A: Since I started my Instagram account last March 2020, pretty much all of my posts are taken in different places in, or near my house because of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. I enjoy taking photos on places of my house where I get access to natural lighting.

Q: What’s the weirdest thing that has ever happened during a photo shoot?

A: This is not as much weird, but once I ran out of ideas on how I would want my setup to look like, that I just started to use garlic, chili, kalamansi, and other stuff I could find in the kitchen and refrigerator as props and background for my shoot.

Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

A: I would either take the powers of mind reading, or super speed. I think it’s cool to be able to tell and observe what and how a person thinks. With super speed, I can explore the possibilities of time travel too! Isn’t it cool?
