An interview with @arizdesign

 In Interviews

Hello, @beermanphotography here with another interview!

Thank you for participating in this interview, I am very excited to talk with you!  Please introduce yourself to the @toypic_community . How long have you been a toy photographer?

A: I officially started toy photography, October 30th, 2015 with my Eevee. That morning I was pondering on an idea of showcasing my collection. I probably had like 100 figures at that time, but I decided to take Eevee with me to work that day. This is real nerdy of me but since then, whenever I go out, I carry a Pokemon with me, cause you never know when you’ll get a great shot!

Q: What got you started in toy photography?

A: I wanted to showcase my collection and with birthdays and Christmas I would get asked what I wanted, and with 893 Pokemon it’s hard to tell someone which ones I needed. So I started photographing the ones I have, so people would know which ones I already had. As of mid May 2020, I have over 656 figures, and photographed 449 of them, according to my Excel sheet. I also created a Pokedex app for my collection, arizdesign.com/dex, to showcase my large collection in a proper manner, like in series. All my photos are taken on an iPhone with very minor image manipulation, mainly to adjust for brightness and contrast.

Q: What is your favorite figure to shoot and why?

A: Oooo, that’s a tough one. There are so many Pokemon to choose from. I have favorites which are Dragon and Fossil Pokemon, but if I were to choose one it would be Tyrunt. I’ve struggled trying to get that perfect shot, but someday I’ll get it.

Q: What is your favorite place to take photos?

A: I like to take pictures anywhere! I’m a Graphic Designer, so I look for a good composition, with great lighting, prominent shadows, and making the figures as real as possible. Rain, snow, and shine, I’m outside “capturing” Pokemon!

Q: What’s the weirdest thing that has ever happened during a photo shoot?

A: Maybe it’s the not the weirdest but a little embarrassing, but one time I went to the Seaside, OR beach trying to catch a shot of my Krabby. I was low on the floor, and a tide came in and almost took my figure! I jumped in, shoes and jeans got all soaked. I’ve also dropped my phone in small streams trying to get that in water shot.

Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

A: I have always pondered this question. I’m a huge superhero fan, and my first thought would be to have telekinetic abilities, as I’d be able to move things with my mind. But the great Stan Lee said that the greatest power would be luck. Imagine everything just working out for you all the time, who wouldn’t want that!
